Washington: If youre a smoker and considering cosmetic surgery - tummy tuck, breast-lift and face-lift, then your Plastic Pallet plastic surgeon will most likely ask you to stop smoking for at least two weeks before you go under the knife. Nearly one-fourth had not smoked at all since their cosmetic surgery procedure. The authors concluded, "The dialogue between plastic surgeon and patient during the cosmetic surgery consultation serves as a unique moment to provide targeted smoking cessation counseling that may persist well beyond the surgical interaction."The research appears in the journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.A study has recently found that many patients receiving these instructions would quit smoking or at least smoke less in the years after cosmetic surgery. Nearly one-fourth continued to smoke up to the day of their procedure."Surgeons, who request preoperative smoking cessation, may influence patients long-term smoking status," Slyke added. In the follow-up survey, about 40 per cent of patients said they no longer smoked cigarettes on a daily basis. After exclusion of five "social" smokers, the study included 42 patients who were daily smokers before cosmetic surgery. Van Slyke from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver."Our results show an association between cosmetic surgery and smoking cessation at long-term follow-up," said lead study author Aaron C.The complication rate after cosmetic surgery was higher in patients who continued to smoke: 24 per cent versus 14 per cent. The study included 85 patients who were smokers when evaluated for cosmetic surgery. The most common procedures were " tummy tuck" (abdominoplasty), breast-lift (mastopexy), andface-lift.Most of the patients were women; the average age was 40 years. Five years after the cosmetic surgery, 47 patients responded to a follow-up survey. Like most plastic surgeons, Dr. Van Slyke and colleagues required patients to refrain from smoking for at least two weeks before elective procedures..About 70 per cent agreed that discussing their increased surgical risks with the plastic surgeon influenced their ability to quit or reduce smoking. Those instructions reflect a well-demonstrated increase in wound-healing problems and other negative outcomes among smokers after plastic surgery

Venkaiah Naidu Friday spoke to the megastar

Venkaiah Naidu Friday spoke to the megastar and thanked him for agreeing to be the face of the ministry’s new communication campaign, aimed at encouraging citizens to use "city compost" produced from municipal solid waste. In his new role, Mr Bachchan is expected to appeal to all citizens, nursery owners and horticulture agencies to pledge to use only city compost in their gardens, farm houses and public gardens. "Additionally, he will be making an appeal to bulk waste generators, such as educational institutions and hotels, to set up decentralised composting equipment in their respective premises and encourage the citizens to segregate organic waste for further composting," the release said. Therefore, a focused communication campaign is being launched with Amitabh Bachchan as its face to spread awareness and push up the production of city compost, leading to increased quantum of waste processing and disposal and lessening the Plastic Outdoor Suppliers burden on existing dump sites," the release added.Months after the Centre put on hold his name as brand ambassador for the "Incredible India" campaign, reportedly over the Panama Paper leaks, the government said on Friday that Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan would be the face of the "city compost" campaign of Swachchh Bharat Mission, one of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet projects. This comes months after reports that there was a rethink on the part of the government to sign up the actor for "Incredible India" after the exit of another Bollywood actor, Aamir Khan, following his controversial remarks on perceived intolerance."Despite the clear advantages of city compost, its current production from waste lags far behind its potential. At present, India produces over 1..54 lakh metric tonnes of solid waste per day, 50 per cent of which comprises organic waste that can be converted into compost and gas. Urban development minister M. "The ministry will soon launch a multi-platform communication campaign featuring the megastar," he said
